Blending into the background in the depths of
silence, moving soundlessly as a ghost, with all
senses tuned to their maximum concentration,
patiently waiting long hours for the right
opportunity. Only in this way can I achieve very
intimate encounters with the extraordinarily wary
creatures that inhabit the far corners of the Slovak
Carpathians.
It took a long time until I learned to get this
close to them, until I found places where they
behave naturally, where they feel safe, where their
real home is still relatively untouched by human
hands.
People often ask me what attracts me to filming and
incessantly discovering new scenes from the wild. I
do not have a clear answer. Is it something inside
me? Probably I am searching for calm and an escape
from today’s over-civilized, stressful world. But
perhaps there are also the genes of a hunter,
inherited from ancient ancestors? Yes, my passion
certainly has something in common with hunting. It
is like a feeling of victory that I always feel when,
by wits and patience, I “beat” a careful opponent
that had no inkling of my presence in the wilderness.
Those are my great internal victories and also a
sense of existence, for which I willingly overcome
total exhaustion, pain, lack of sleep, discomfort,
wet and cold. Passion is passion. You can find some
of my and my brother’s “catches” on this website and
the rest in our films.
